Mumbai is one of the world's most populated metropolitan cities. The capital of the state of Maharashtra, it is located on an island with a deep natural harbour, on the west coast of India. It is the nation's commercial capital. The name was officially changed from Bombay to Mumbai in 1995, but the former name is still used worldwide to refer to the city.

Language:

Mumbai is home to people who speak many different languages, the common ones being Hindi and Marathi. As a multicultural city, most of the locals are friendly and easy to approach, and comfortable with English as well.

Mumbai has a tropical climate with dry winters. Though the month of December is in the winter season, temperatures in Mumbai generally never fall into single digits and the afternoons are hot even on the coldest day.

Traveling within the City:

Public transport mediums of the local trains and buses are extremely crowded and should be totally avoided by tourists. It is best to take a taxi for which there are many options available.

Taxis in Mumbai:

Black and Yellow taxis : plying throughout Mumbai are an integral part of the city's public transport. Payment is to be made by meter and the minimum fare for these taxis is Rs. 22 for the first 1.5 km.

Uber Cabs : Uber is an international cab company operating in Mumbai. To travel by Uber you need to have the application downloaded on your cell phone. It connects you with a reliable ride in minutes. Your driver either knows where to go or will be guided by his GPS. You also have the facility of paying by either cash or card.

Ola Cabs : Ola Cabs is an Indian cab application, just like UBER and can also be used to travel within the city easily.

Cool Cabs (the Blue and silver air conditioned metered taxis) & Meru Cabs (the pale green taxis) : Are the other taxis commonly found in Mumbai and safe to travel.
